The Growth of Mysticism is the second volume in the multi-volume work The Presence of God: A History of Western Christian Mysticism. It takes up the story from 500 to 1200 C.E. and falls naturally into two broad sections. Part 1 deals with Early Medieval Mysticism and covers the period 500 to 1100 C.E. Part 2 concerns the mysticism of the twelfth century, the age of the richest development of the monastic mystical tradition in the west.
